This medication is used to reduce increased intraocular pressue (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucome or ocular hypertentsion (increased pressure in the eye).
Individuals taking the medication may experience allergic conjunctivitis (allergy of the eye), reddening, burning, itching, swelling and stinging of the eye. Discontinue medication in case of allergic conjunctivitis (eye allergy) or blepharitis (inflammation of eyelid). Depression, somnolece (sleepiness). Headache, hypertension (high blood pressure), dry mouth, asthenia (abnormal physical weakness), abnormal Liver Function Tests, eye irritation and inflammation, erosion of the cornea (top transparent layer of eye), visual disturbances and systemic (all over the body) Beta-blocker effect.
There is risk involved in taking this medication during pregnancy.
This medicine is contraindicated in nursing females.
Individuals must observe caution in the following cases: Severe cardiovascular disease, in which case patients’ cardiac function must be monitored. Hyperthyroidism (excess thyroid hormone in the body). Severe central (heart or brain) or peripheral (extremities) blood vessel disorders. Caution must also be observed by individuals with Raynaud’s phenomenon (narrowing of blood vessels in extremities), hypotension (low blood pressure), diabetes, metabolic acidosis (an acid/base disbalance in the body), pheochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal glands), depression, cerebral (brain) or coronary insufficiency (heart does not get enough blood), orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure upon standing), thromboangiitis obliterans (inflammation and clotting of blood vessels of the extremities), kidney or liver impairment, and dialysis patients. Withdraw gradually, remove lenses before administering medicine and wait for 15 minutes before re-inserting them.
This medication is contraindicated in neonates and infants that are under 2 years of age. It is also contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of its excipients, history of asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (narrowing of the airway), sinus bradycardia (slow heartbeat), sick sinus syndrome (heart rhythm disorder) sino-atrial and atrioventricular block (heart block), overt cardiac failure (heart failure), and cardiogenic shock (inability of heart to pump adequate amounts of blood).
