The patient taking this medicine must take a regular blood test to blood calcium and phosphate levels, especially in children, patients with kidney problems, and patients on a high dose of this medication.
This medication is not recommended for use in children under 20kg.
This medication is to be taken with a drink of water and with a meal.

Vitamin D deficiency
This medicine is used for the treatment of renal osteodystrophy (alteration of bone morphology in patients with chronic kidney disease), hyperparathyroidism (decreased secretion of parathyroid hormone), and hyperparathyroidism (excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone). It is also used in malabsorptive and vitamin D resistant rickets (soft bones in children) and osteomalacia (soft bones in adults).
The patient taking this medication may experience nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, rash, and raised concentration of calcium and phosphate in plasma and urine.

The Patient should inform the doctor about history of Kidney stones and the patient should be advised for signs of hypercalcemia (increased calcium in the blood), calcification of pulmonary (lung) tissue, cardiac valve sclerosis (thickened valve), and arteriosclerosis (thickened arteries).
This medication is contraindicated in cases of hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) and metastatic calcification (deposition of calcium in normal body tissues).
This medicine increases the amount of active vitamin D in the body, which in turn increases the level of calcium and phosphate in the blood and helps reduce bone breakdown. It is also given to provide a more rapid increase in active vitamin D and hence calcium, in people with various bone diseases.
The effect of this medicine lasts for an average of 2-7 days.
