Indications

This medication is used as monotherapy or as an adjunct for the treatment of idiopathic (unknown cause) Parkinson’s disease. It can also be used to treat restless legs syndrome.

Side Effects

Side-effects include gastrointestinal upset, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, hallucinations, confusion, fatigue, fainting, leg edema, sudden onset of sleep, hypotension (low blood pressure), and abdominal pain.

Contraindications

The use is contraindicated in patients with kidney and liver problems.

What are the uses of Ropinirole?

This medication is used for treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It can help decrease symptoms such as tremors (shakiness), unsteadiness, slowed movements, stiffness, and improve the ability to move about. It can help decrease overall episodes of inability to move (on-off syndrome). It can also be used to treat Restless Legs Syndrome. It helps improve sleep by decreasing the urge to move legs and decreasing unpleasant sensation in the legs.

How to store Ropinirole?

This medicine has no such adverse effects. However, Parkinson’s disease may affect memory and make learning slightly difficult.

What are the precautions for taking Ropinirole?

• Your blood pressure may drop suddenly in the early stages of treatment with this medicine • You may fall asleep suddenly or feel drowsy after taking this medicine (reported in some patients) therefore avoid doing work requiring alertness e.g. driving after taking this medicine
